Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders -SLARDAR was formed in July 1983 by drivers and riders associated with motor sports racing in Sri Lanka. What prompted the formation of SLARDAR was that other motor sports clubs at that time were paying scanty regard to the sport and did not heed to the genuine grievances of the competitors and the expectations of a large number of motor sport enthusiasts. Thus the need arose for the formation of an association in order to safeguard and foster their interest in the sport and with the specific intention of improving the standard of the sport.
The Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) was recently formed, and aims to ensure professional conduct of motor sports events in Sri Lanka. AMRC consists of a committee of management drawn from racing drivers, marketing and management professionals. They hope to adopt internationally accepted standards in conducting all motor sports events. While ensuring a level playing field for all competitors, this would also ensure that spectators get more value for money and indeed sponsors get the required mileage.
