The 2017 motoring season is set to flag off in grand style as the “Sri Lanka Super Series 2017” conducts the first of its six racing events later this month. Powered by Abaya & Company, the Distributors for USHA Pistons & SPR Piston Rings, the Sri Lanka Super Series 2017 takes place in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) and the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC).
The six racing eventsof the Sri Lanka Super Series 2017 include the Katukurunda Circuit Meet (18th& 19th March), Fox Hill Supercross (21st & 22nd April), Colombo Supercross (6th & 7th May), Cavalry Supercross (1st & 2nd July), Commando Supercross (15th & 16th July) and the Pannala Circuit Meet (Night Race - 9th & 10th September) while the season will end in 2nd December with the Awards Ceremony.
Across the six events, Sri Lanka’s finest drivers and riders will battle it out to be crowned the “Champion Driver” and “Champion Rider” by the end of the year. The Champion Driver will receive a brand new KIA Picanto car with the courtesy of Vision Care (Pvt) Limited and co-sponsored by KIA Motors Lanka Limited. The Champion Rider will receive a brand new Honda Hornet Motorcycle provided by Stafford Motors. All awards will be handed over at the gala awards ceremony planned on the 2nd December 2017 at the Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall in Attidiya.
Several organisations are set to lend their support for this series. Jeep comes as the “Recovery Partner”. Additionally, for the first time in the series’ history, ProMate will join up to give away much-needed stationery as gifts to all the participants in the Under-16, Under-13 and Under-10 Motorcycle classes.
Addressing the gathering at the official launch ceremony, President of the SLARDAR, Nishan Wasalathanthri stated, “As you are aware, we have always focused a great deal on continuous improvement of the sport and therefore I am proud to state that this year’s ‘Sri Lanka Super Series’ is bigger and better than ever. We have made every possible effort to provide greater resources and grand prizes in order to attract, encourage and motivate the country’s finest drivers and riders to perform at their best. I am sure they will offer plenty of thrills to the huge crowds that are expected at each of the events.” He stated that the sport will never be what it is today if not for passion shown by the competitors and added, “The SLARDAR & AMRC has been in the forefront in rewarding the competitorsright from the inception and we are confident that with these new developments, the sport will be taken to the next level during the year.”
Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers & Riders (SLARDAR), two of the most prestigious motor sports clubs in the country have yet again put together a massive show for the motor sports enthusiasts together with the Lions Clubs International District 306 C1. The “SRI LANKA SUPER SEREIS 2017“ Powered by Abaya & Co; Distributor for USHA Pistons & SPR Piston Rings is, scheduled conduct the Katukurunda Racing Meet at Katukurunda race track on 19th March 2017, and will be flagged off at 9.00am.
Annually the Lions Club District 306 C1 carry out fund raising projects in order to generate funds to implement many community service projects to serve the poor, the downtrodden and the under privileged. This year, the University of Peradeniya has requested for a Back-hoe loader machine for their use. Professor Luxhmen Wijeyeweera, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya is also one of the past District Governors, and currently serves as the Chairman of the past District Governors Association of District 306 C1, in Sri Lanka. The race will generate the required funds to oblige with the request, University of Peradeniya the largest residential University in Sri Lanka with over 15,000 students, 9 different faculties and 3 postgraduate institutions.

The Lions Club International District 306 C1 will be celebrating one hundred years of unparalleled service to people, addressing many community needs such as disaster relief, preventing blindness, empowering youth, relieving the hunger, strengthening educational functions in Primary, Secondary & Higher Educational Institutions etc. We are delighted to state that we have already achieved our goal of serving one hundred million people world over, in three years, to mark our centennial celebrations, before the end of the targeted period of 2014-2018”.
This race will be the 1st round of the “Sri Lanka Super Series 2017. The event will be one of the ‘hottest’ events in motor sports in Sri Lanka. The countries best racing drivers and riders will showcase their fully prepped up race cars and their driving capabilities when they fight it out on 15 different categories. The main events will be the infamous SL GT up to 3500cc event and the SL-H Up to 1600cc event where over 20 competitors are expected to perform while the motor cycle hotties of Bikes up to 1000cc and bike up to 600cc also expecting to be of high glamour events. These will be supported by all other regular car and bike events.
Spectators are reminded that there will be 2 (Two) gates operational at all times and they can either enter or leave anytime they wish to. Tickets will be available at the gates.
All Cars and Motor Cycle racing enthusiasts are welcome to participate and the entries are open and the entry forms can be collected from and submitted to the SLARDAR Office, 128 (2nd Floor ) , High level road, Nugegoda between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm on weekdays. The entries will close on 8th March 2017.
